Program Description

Rome: The Eternal City
This program provides students with an interdiciplinary perspective of Rome. Directed by Pace Professor Lawrence Hundersmarck. Open to all Pace University students.



This very popular program is being offered for its eighth year. Participants will study and visit the significant cultural sites that have made Rome a world center since ancient times. The course brings to life the history, art, architecture, religion, and culture of this magnificent city. Rome is the center of the fabled Roman Empire, seat of the Roman Catholic Church, and capital of modern Italy.

Rigorous academic study is coupled with a great deal of fun and free time for exploring Rome and its environs. The course provides participants the opportunity to see and experience firsthand what they are learning about. The awesome aura of Rome will create memories for a lifetime.

Credit


  • Participants will earn 6 credits upon successful completion of this course.
    -- INT 197 Registered during the Spring term
    -- RES 101 Registered for during Summer session

  • RES 101 counts in the Core as AOK II and fulfills "Inquiry and Exploration" or an Open Elective and is a "Learning Community".

  • Classes are conducted in Rome, with the city as your text. Emphasis is placed on art, architecture, religion, urban planning, and the history of Rome in its Classical, Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, and Modern expressions.

  • A pre-departure orientation meeting will be held during the Spring semester in NY.

  • This course is taught by Dr. Lawarence Hundersmarck, Professor of Philosophy and Religious Studies at Pace University. Additionally, several local Professors from the University of Rome will share expertise on-site in Rome.



Accommodations

Participants will be housed at the Villa Marignoli, known as the "Last Castle in Rome" (www.villamarignoli.it).
